LiveSimply Group

INFORMATION:

Live Simply Group

In 2016 Holy Family Parish became the first in Plymouth diocese to gain the LiveSimply award, which is given to communities who can show that they have been living simply, in sustainability with creation, and in solidarity with people living in poverty. We did so through various projects and activities, including encouraging recycling, avoiding waste, planting wildflower seeds in the church grounds to encourage butterflies and bees, making bird boxes, holding outdoor prayer and reflection, donating to the Foodbank, bringing gifts for the homeless, and supporting Fairtrade and CAFOD. Now our LiveSimply Group meets to keep the spotlight on our objectives and plan future projects. At this time when Pope Francis’ encyclical ‘Laudato Si’ encourages us to care for the earth, our common home, we must do all we can to combat the threat of Climate Change. New members and all ideas are welcome!

CAFOD, the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development

INFORMATION:

CAFOD

CAFOD, the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development, the official aid agency of the Catholic Church, has a representation within the Parish with a lively dedicated core of members who meet simultaneously with the Live Simply group. Regular meetings are held to discuss the needs of CAFOD and Live Simply. The Parish holds fast days in Lent and at Harvest time to fundraise for CAFOD, and fun activities are organised throughout the year. Campaigns to help our wider communities overseas are also arranged, as CAFOD works through a global church network to support people living in poverty. Anyone who would like to be involved with making our planet a better one to live in are most welcome to join the group.
